We've known about the female engineers at Ford from projects like the F-150 Lightning pickup, whose chief engineer is Linda Zhang and projects like the Mustang Mach-E, where team members like Aleyna Kapur powered through the pandemic from home to deliver the vehicle on time.
But the company has many women who are contributing to its products, and for International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, Ford has released some information highlighting some of these women.
Additionally, Ford has created a video for a fictional new "Men Only" edition of the Ford Explorer. This model lacks features invented by women such as Florence Lawrence, pioneer of brake and turn signals, Dorothy Levitt, creator of the rearview mirror, Dorothée Pullinger, innovator of the rearview mirror, Stephanie Kwolek, innovator of tires and brake pads, and Dr. Gladys West, pioneer of the modern-day GPS.
Ford describes the humorous video: "Initially appearing to be a traditional car advertisement showcasing a new Ford Explorer, the story quickly shifts to a completely reimagined vehicle without many of the essential features developed from those who made a huge impact – women. Without their hard work, essential car elements including heaters, windshield wipers, turn signals, brake lights, and GPS would cease to exist."
